The CME Investment building sits within Beijing’s Xinhua 1949 Cultural and Financial Innovation Centre. anySCALE was tasked with transforming a simple, box-like factory into an inviting, multifunctional workplace.
The former warehouse was vast, tall, and illuminated by striking skylights—its roof structure becoming the heart of the design. By shaping the flow of natural light and arranging a variety of rooms around it, the space now feels dynamic, cohesive, and full of movement.
The ground floor forms a multifunctional square for lounging, meeting, and presentations. Above, a more relaxed second level remains open for circulation, with four cubic meeting rooms overlooking the space below—one of them intentionally tilted to add visual energy. The central void was left open to allow daylight to filter through the building, creating shifting shadows and semi-transparent patterns that connect enclosed rooms with the larger space while maintaining privacy.
Warm, rich materials define the atmosphere: dark timber beams that break the light, red brick walls, corrugated glass railings, deep grey carpets, and blue textile art. The design is modern without excess—its elegance lies in restraint, subtle detailing, and precise craftsmanship.
The CME Investment building demonstrates anySCALE’s ability to shape light, geometry, and volume to unlock the full potential of an existing structure—turning a dated industrial shell into a refined and highly functional workplace.
