CR Union draws inspiration from the Millennium Falcon in Star Wars, transforming into a library reminiscent of a spaceship floating through the universe. Through the introduction of open, layered floor plans and a smart restructuring of levels, natural light was allowed to flow deep into the interior.
At the heart of the redesign lies a 9-meter sky well, serving both as a vertical transportation hub and as the building’s luminous central atrium. The design team chose to preserve the ceiling in its original, raw condition — an honest trace of the building’s history. The exposed concrete-beam structure, a hallmark of construction methods from more than 30 years ago, remains visible, grounding the futuristic concept in authenticity.
The reconfiguration of the high-ceilinged structure made it possible to introduce two functional floors where once there was only one, greatly enhancing spatial efficiency. The colorful, speaker-inspired design theme was derived from a previous media center project by anySCALE, infusing the space with a sense of dynamism and rhythm.
Drawing on a university-like spatial spirit, and centered around a majestic golden ginkgo tree in the courtyard, the design channels an atmosphere of youthful renewal. Light streams through the open sky well above, illuminating the space like a beacon — a fusion of technology, memory, and imagination.
