In this transformation of an old warehouse, anySCALE reimagined the Universal Music Publishing Group office as a state-of-the-art creative hub. Completed in 2021, the 600 m², two-story space includes songwriter studios, event and lounge areas, and an urban rooftop terrace—an open, inspiring setting for musical collaboration in Shanghai.
A gold-powder canopy and industrial doors with an engraved UMPG logo mark the new entrance, contrasting the building’s original industrial frame. Inside, open floor plans and a central scaffolded staircase adorned with gold and platinum records create a sense of motion and history. The ground floor functions as a reception and songwriter lounge with a stage niche framed by LED screens for performances and events, while the upper floor hosts five acoustically isolated songwriting rooms offering complete privacy for professional recording.
At the top, a rooftop bar and terrace invite informal gatherings under the sun sail, connecting work with leisure. Throughout the interior, raw brick walls meet soft acoustic panels, fine textiles, and sleek metallic details, balancing warmth and edge.
Combining heritage with innovation, anySCALE’s design captures the spirit of music itself—fluid, expressive, and timeless—turning a former factory into a place where creativity truly resonates.
